Stretch Selvedge - Standard Fit
The Standard is the fit we keep coming back to. Mid rise, a clean silhouette that follows the leg without gripping it, and a leg opening that works over a boot or a sneaker.
The fabric is Kaihara, from Fukuyama, Hiroshima. They have been weaving indigo since 1893 and built one of Japan's first rope dyeing machines in 1970. Rope dyeing leaves a white core inside the yarn. That core is what surfaces as the denim wears.
We chose a 12 oz. indigo with 2 percent stretch. Two percent takes the plank out of a raw jean without taking out the backbone. It breaks in within a couple of weeks and still fades on schedule, honeycombs behind the knee, whiskers at the hip.
